You’ve seen it before, right? I'm talking about the growing pile of business cards on your desk. At first, it feels like momentum. Then it becomes just another reminder of what you haven’t done: the follow-ups you never got around to.
The value of a business card lies in what you do next. Here’s a system to help you turn those fleeting introductions into lasting connections, with less clutter and more clarity.
🟢 1. Capture Immediately
As soon as your next 3-day class or networking event wraps up (or even mid-flight afterwards), sort the business cards you get into groups of 4 or 6 and photograph them, front and back, on a clean surface like an airplane tray table. Upload the photos to a Google Photos album share named after the Bootcamp or REIA event. Jot down a couple of quick notes on the cards or add comments in the album for context.
🟢 2. Centralize Your Data
If you have an assistant or team member, add them to the shared album so they get a notification, and this is their cue. All you do is have them enter the info from the images into your CRM, including:
- Name, title, company
- Email/phone
- Event details
- Notes from your chat
- Tags (e.g., “Q2 networking,” “Austin market”)
🟢 3. Automate the Follow-Up
Prepare a simple, flexible follow-up email in advance. Once contacts are logged, personalize and send it within a few days. A simple message like this works:
“Hi ~c:firstName~, it was great meeting you at [Event]. I really enjoyed our chat about [topic]. Let’s stay in touch and explore ways to collaborate.”
🟢 4. Review Monthly
