Recalibrated Perspectives

Listen To Today's Episode:

Episode Recap:

In this episode of Learn How to See Better, Drew Davis explores the concept of recalibrating perspectives to stay on track toward success. He compares personal growth to a torpedo navigating toward a target, emphasizing the importance of continuous adjustments to avoid drifting off course. Just as businesses require regular reflection and refinement, so do our lives, especially as we gain new skills and experiences. Drew highlights the power of community, masterminds, and like-minded individuals in providing fresh insights and accountability. He stresses that setbacks aren’t necessarily failures—sometimes, execution needs tweaking rather than the strategy itself. Leveraging personal and professional assets, such as mentors and networks, can accelerate growth and ensure alignment with long-term goals. Finally, he encourages listeners to take this moment—one-twelfth into the year—as a checkpoint to fine-tune their focus, ensuring they are still on the right path toward their aspirations.

Key Highlights:

🎯 Success is a process of constant error correction, much like how a torpedo zigzags to reach its target.

🎯 Growth requires taking past experiences and using them as building blocks to refine future actions.

🎯 Surrounding yourself with a strong network or mastermind group is a valuable asset for gaining new perspectives.

🎯 Sometimes, failure isn’t due to a flawed strategy but rather missing steps in execution, like skipping a pre-flight checklist.

🎯 The start of year is a great time to reassess goals, fine-tune focus, & make necessary adjustments to stay aligned with success.

"Your resources are like assets—your people, relationships, mentors, and networks can lift you and help you see better."

This quote is powerful because it shifts the perspective on personal and professional relationships from being just "support" to being strategic assets. It reinforces the idea that success isn’t a solo journey—it’s about leveraging the wisdom, guidance, and experiences of those around us. By treating our connections as valuable resources, we can accelerate growth, avoid costly mistakes, and stay on course. This mindset encourages intentional networking, seeking out mentorship, and engaging with communities that challenge and uplift us—key elements in achieving long-term success.

"Hey, what's up, everybody? This is Drew, and I want to welcome you back to "Learn How to See Better." It's the only podcast out there that improves your vision the longer you listen.

Today, I want to talk about something that's right at the core of what the podcast is about: learning how to see better. In this episode, I'm calling it "Recalibrated Perspectives." Why, you ask? Because as we go on our journey to learn how to see better, there are times when we still need to get dialed in, trying to recalibrate our focus to ensure we're really seeing things through the right lenses—both physically and metaphorically.

The way I want to discuss this today is through the perspective of how we actually look at our goals. Think of how a torpedo works; they say you often zigzag your way to success, much like a torpedo does. There's a lot of error correction involved in the process of reaching a target. If you have a goal or direction, there are times when you need to recalibrate. Everyone's heard the example: if you look at LA and New York, if you're just off by a few degrees, you end up in Chicago.

Along the way, you want opportunities to step back and evaluate what you're experiencing on a broader scale. It's akin to the idea of "working on" and "working in" your life or business. There are times when you need to step back and assess what's going on, and as you make adjustments, you lean into becoming your best self. While you're in the trenches doing the hard work, it's essential to have moments to step back and reflect.

I recently had the opportunity to take that time out for the first time in a good quarter. I surrounded myself with like-minded individuals and immersed myself in a growth-oriented environment. I can tell you firsthand that it was a very energetic experience. It's not just about the details of any particular event but the idea that when you have a network—a mastermind, a tribe, or a community—you can plug into it. This network can serve as an asset, like something on your balance sheet.

When you have folks in your corner who are looking to see you win and celebrate alongside you, it becomes even more valuable. Sometimes, you realize you need adjustments and enhancements to your perspective when things don’t line up. You might expect a certain outcome from something in life and get a different experience.

For instance, someone could try a new sport and break their leg in a couple of weeks. While that sounds dramatic, it illustrates that we often evaluate what something could be, should be, and what it actually is. You might think trying a new sport was a bad strategy when, in reality, it could be that a few crucial steps were missing—like lacing your shoes—leading to an undesirable outcome.

So, what are the opportunities we can embrace? Look at the resources you have in your life; they’re like assets. Your pool of assets can include your relationships, coaches, mentors, and the groups you connect with. How can you lean into those resources to help you see better?

Having just come from that opportunity for recalibration, I encourage you to reflect on your experiences and how they align with your intentions. Is everything harmonious, or is there turbulence? What insights can you gain from others that can enhance your perspective?

These are questions to ponder as you evaluate your journey. As Dr. Stephen Covey said in his book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People," how do you sharpen the saw? Otherwise, you might be putting in a lot of effort with little return, trying to cut down a tree with a dull saw.

This is your friendly reminder that it’s the end of January. We’ve passed whatever that new holiday is about New Year’s resolutions going out the window—Ditch Your Resolutions Day, I believe. As we move into February, we’re one-twelfth of the way through the year. This is a great checkpoint to recalibrate your perspective.

Is everything still calibrated? Is everything in focus? Sometimes, it’s just a wash, rinse, and repeat. Other times, you may need to make some adjustments.

I wanted to share this perspective for you to consider. It could be the way to fine-tune your own world and get onto the fast track to reaching your goals. That’s what I’ve got for you in this episode of "Learn How to See Better."

I’m your host, Drew Davis. If this struck a chord with you, let me know how. Be sure to share this with a friend and give me your feedback. Until next time, I look forward to catching you on the next one. I appreciate you joining!
